Ignition UK AI Limited is a UK-based technology company. We operate the Ignition app — an AI companion called Sparks that helps teenagers aged 13–17 explore their identity and interests through natural conversation.

This policy applies to:

• Teenagers using the Ignition app
• Parents and guardians who consent on behalf of their child
• Schools and educational organisations that deploy Ignition to students

From teenagers using the app:

• A randomly generated unique identifier (never a name or email address)
• Age range
• Conversation content between the teen and Sparks
• Interests and identity signals detected from conversations
• Session timestamps and app version

From parents and guardians:

• Email address (for consent and progress summaries)
• Name (optional)
• Consent records and timestamps

From schools:

• School name and contact details
• Named contact for data protection purposes
• Consent records for students

We do not collect:

• Names of teenagers
• Photos or biometric data
• Location data
• Social media profiles
• Any data from teenagers under 13

We use this data to:

• Provide the Ignition service to your child
• Generate identity and interest insights that help Sparks have better conversations
• Send parents periodic progress summaries showing what their child has been exploring
• Identify and respond to safety concerns
• Improve the Ignition app and Sparks's responses over time

We will never use your child's data to:

• Show advertising
• Sell to third parties
• Profile teenagers for commercial purposes
• Make automated decisions that significantly affect your child without human oversight

All conversation data is stored against a random identifier — never a name or any directly identifying information.

When conversations are used for product improvement, they are anonymised before processing. No individual teen can be identified from this anonymised data.

We use industry-standard encryption for data storage and transmission. Access to conversation data is strictly limited to authorised Ignition staff and only for safety review purposes.

We would like to use anonymised conversation data to train and improve Ignition's AI models. This helps Sparks become better at supporting teenagers over time.

You can withdraw this consent at any time by emailing sparks@ignitionuk.co.uk — this will not affect your child's access to Ignition.

If you have not explicitly opted in, your child's conversations will never be used for AI training purposes.

Ignition is designed for teenagers aged 13–17.

• Ages 13–15: Parental or guardian consent is required before the app can be used. Consent must be explicit and recorded — silence or inaction does not constitute consent.
• Ages 16–17: Under UK law, users aged 13 and over may consent to data processing independently. However, given the sensitive nature of identity conversations, we strongly encourage parental awareness for all users under 18. Parent progress summaries are available on request.

If a conversation contains signals that suggest a teenager may be at risk, Ignition is designed to:

• Provide immediate crisis resources within the app (Childline: 0800 1111, Samaritans: 116 123)
• Flag the conversation for human review within 24 hours
• Notify parents of users under 16 if we believe there is a serious safeguarding concern

Safety-flagged conversations may be retained for up to 24 months to support any safeguarding review.

When Ignition is deployed through a school:

• The school acts as a data controller alongside Ignition UK AI Limited
• We will enter into a Data Processing Agreement with your school before deployment
• Student data is never shared between schools
• Schools can request a full data export or deletion of all student data at any time
• We will support your school's GDPR and safeguarding obligations
